Dr Sham Moodley is an accomplished community pharmacist based in Durban, South Africa, with over three decades of experience in advancing pharmacy practice and patient care. He holds a BSc in Pharmacology (University College Dublin), a BPharm (UKZN), a Postgraduate Diploma in HIV/AIDS and a Master’s degree (cum laude) from Stellenbosch University, and a PhD from UKZN.
Dr Moodley has received multiple honours, including SAPC National Pharmacist of the Year (2008), Community Pharmacist of the Year (2019), and Fellowships from both the PSSA (2022) and FIP (2024). He serves as an elected member of the South African Pharmacy Council (2024–2028), where he chairs the Practice Committee, and contributes to several national task teams on NHI, medicine availability, and pharmacy-led primary care.
A passionate advocate for accessible healthcare, Dr Moodley continues to lead initiatives that strengthen the role of independent pharmacies in South Africa’s evolving healthcare landscape.
